The Romance Review

Ancient Revenge at Merryweather Lodge   Me at Scotland Lodge (Merryweather Lodge) in the dreaded wood-lot

Every summer, when I was a child, we would visit my aunt and uncle at their quaint little cottage on Salisbury Plain. It was called Scotland Lodge and was situated not far from the historical Stonehenge. My uncle worked as a farm hand for the local squire. My aunt tended the manor house. It was there as I roamed free, deep within the English countryside, that I experienced joy, enchantment and some very strange and frightening occurrences. It was like a fairy tale kingdom with a sinister twist. The memories of my summers at Scotland Lodge have stayed with me as a sort of nagging unsolved mystery all of my life. A few years ago I revisited my childhood wonderland (the old place still emanates a strange, eerie essence) and was lead by some mysterious force into concocting this story and writing this book. It is from my mystifying experiences at Scotland Lodge that this book has emerged.

When Emily Fletcher meets the gorgeous Jonathan McArthur she is infatuated and consumed with passion. Will he go with her to the dreaded wood-lot, to remove the bloody ancient curse, before it’s too late? In the first half of my story Emily is fourteen years old. In the second half she is forced to return to the cottage, at the age of twenty. My novel contains elements of horror, humor, fantasy, romance and sex. I have created a world into which my readers can escape and an atmosphere that will evoke their imagination, stir their emotions and engage their senses.

I have composed a summary for my prospective readers, featuring my characters and offering them a glimpse into the contents of my book. It is written in the voice of my protagonist.

Dear reader. Come with me to the West Country in England and experience my life’s strange and eerie journey.

It began when I was fourteen years old while visiting my aunt and uncle in their quaint little cottage. It is situated on Salisbury Plain not far from the historical Stonehenge. I had waited all my life to visit that enchanting land but it didn’t take me long to realize that my fairy tale kingdom had a sinister twist. One night, in my attic bedroom I was confronted by an entity that taunted me for the rest of my stay and long after that. Later I was to discover that this hideous creature was someone I had known centuries ago.

Come with me and feel the magic and mystery of this captivating area. At times it felt like I was standing on hallowed ground. Envision the lush rolling hills, quaint old pubs and rose covered cottages that dot the English countryside. Inhale the aroma of fresh baked bread and home made scones with thick Devonshire cream and strawberry jam. Smell the fragrant scent of the unseen shadow that followed me around. Cringe at the putrid stench of my unearthly adversary. Who is she? Will she get her revenge? Slip back in time to an ancient world of Goddesses, allure, sorcery, and sacrifice. Grieve with me over the loss of someone I loved and respected. Did he die of natural causes or at the hand of something diabolical? Laugh with me at the unique British humor, lingo and antics of my dear Auntie Em. A sturdy English rose, abrasive and hard on the outside but all soft and mushy on the inside. Why is she so full of secrets? And will she ever recover from the dreadful event that left her incapacitated? Meet her husband, my Uncle Reg, a man of the land. Experience with me the lust and excitement that ran through my veins when I became infatuated with the son of my uncles right hand man. Why did he evoke such familiarity in me? Had we met in another life? And will I ever get to feel his lips on mine? Meet his parents: John McArthur, a meek and amusing little man and Maud McArthur, a stout stern-faced woman with a holier-than-thou attitude. Meet his sister Belinda, a beautiful young woman with a dark and devious soul. Why did she stir up so much dread in me? Let me introduce you to the peculiar Mrs. Tilly, a wise and colorful gypsy. Is she really what she seems to be? And why does she appear ageless?

Come with me and see how I learn to conquer my ego, recognize my intuition, find pleasure in ordinary things, learn to face insurmountable fears and discover a past incarnation.

I was born in Alberta Canada. My name is Emily Fletcher, I am the protagonist and this is my story.

Book 2 - Malevolent Spirit

It’s Christmastime at Merryweather Lodge. Emily has returned to the cottage from her home in Canada; after the untimely death of someone she loved. Will she be able to celebrate a traditional English Christmas in her aunts enchanting little cottage or will she be tormented by the hideous creature, again? Was Emily’s attempt to banish her unearthly adversary successful? Will her aunt disclose the secrets she has been concealing for so many years? What will happen when Emily’s best friend comes to visit her? What secrets will she reveal? Will Emily ever get to make love to the man of her dreams?  A chilling tale of love, passion, sorcery and sacrifice; laced with mystery and tied with humor. Inspired by the authors own experiences in a remote little cottage near Stonehenge.

Book 3 - Ultimate Sacrifice

Four years had passed since that dreadful event in the cellar. Belinda gave birth to a baby girl, nine months after Emily witnessed the creature raping Jonathan. The child appeared normal but looks can be deceiving. For four years there had been no paranormal activity at the cottage or reports of suicides or murders in the area. Merryweather Lodge was the fairytale kingdom Emily always dreamt it would be, or so it seemed. In just one week Emily was going to marry the man of her dreams, her literal soul mate. Will her unearthly adversary allow the wedding to take place? Come to the West Country in England and experience the final act at Merryweather Lodge.
